The 5-star Boyalık Beach Hotel & SPA, operating in one of Turkey's most popular holiday destinations, Çeşme, is currently in the spotlight for a series of complaints from guests that point to a serious decline in service quality. According to complaints filed on the Turkish consumer website Şikayetvar, numerous guests who stayed at the hotel in 2025 have reported a range of negative experiences, from hygiene issues and inadequate facilities to technical malfunctions and indifferent staff. The criticisms suggest that the resort, which promotes a luxury and comfortable holiday experience, is falling far short of its promises.

Overcapacity and Inadequate Facilities a Primary Concern

A primary issue highlighted in the complaints is the hotel's alleged practice of accepting guests far beyond its capacity, leading to overcrowded common areas. A guest named Aydan, who visited the hotel in the middle of winter to use its thermal facilities, stated that she encountered "two tiny pools that could hardly be called thermal," which were completely insufficient for the number of guests. Similarly, a guest named Sibel, who stayed during a holiday period, reported an inability to find sun loungers due to overcrowding and noted that the staff could not keep up with any requests. Guests emphasize that such overcrowding, especially in pools and Turkish baths, negatively affects both comfort and hygiene.

Hygiene, Food Quality, and Technical Failures Cause Disappointment

Guests have also frequently voiced that the basic standards expected of a five-star facility were not met. A guest named Sinem described her two-night stay as a difficult ordeal, stating, "Everywhere was filthy, the food was terrible. We nearly died from nausea." This raises serious concerns about the hotel's hygiene and food safety standards. Another guest, Didem, reported that most of the air conditioners and the jacuzzis in the thermal pool were out of order. Regarding the food, she noted that while the breakfast was still good, the evening meals were "mediocre," falling below the culinary standards expected of a 5-star hotel.

From Valet Service to Staff Indifference: Service Quality Under Fire

In addition to physical problems with the facilities, the quality of the service provided has also drawn criticism. A guest named Tolga reported that after using the hotel's valet service, his car's battery was dead, and the hotel management did not resolve his grievance. This incident serves as an example of how even a simple problem, when left unresolved, can significantly impact guest satisfaction. Experiences with staff attitude appear to vary. While the guest named Sibel complained of "indifferent" staff, Didem, on the other hand, made a point to praise the employees, stating, "all of the staff are very attentive and friendly." This discrepancy suggests a lack of consistent service standards at the hotel.

A Five-Star Expectation, a Two-Star Reality?

The common thread running through the complaints is the sentiment of "major disappointment." A guest named Oguz, who had planned to visit the hotel for years, summarized his long-awaited stay as "a 2-star experience at a 5-star hotel," citing everything from the chaos at reception to problems in the room. In a highly competitive tourism hub like Çeşme, experts note that for a brand that commands high prices, consistently delivering on its promise of quality is essential to protecting its reputation. These customer reports indicate a significant gap between the expected 5-star experience and the reality guests are facing.
